Driving Your Self Charging Hybrid For Better Fuel Economy

Updated: Feb 19, 2022

The Toyota/Lexus Internal combustion engine (I.C.E) is set to run on what is called an Atkinson cycle which means the valves stay open slightly longer at the sacrifice of power density but increased fuel economy and is ideal for use on hybrid vehicles. This is not new technology in fact it has been around since the 1800's,1882 to be exact thanks to James Atkinson. Now in 2020 similar principals are applied, no longer using a mechanical system, but with electronics and software.

On Toyota /Lexus Hybrid synergy drive keeping the revs low and under 30 miles an hour and rolling where possible there is less need for the engine to engage and therefore less fuel consumption, good for the planet and good for your wallet or purse. With Toyota / Lexus hybrid synergy drive, drivers may notice when you accelerating hard from stopped position the engine always engages, where as easing slowly away and rolling where possible, does not give the same result when the battery is in good condition. With other type of hybrid vehicles such the Honda IMA Integrated motor assist, the system works by adding power when the vehicle is accelerating, so the previous does not apply.

In summary.....with any hybrid Electric vehicle / any vehicle involving fossil fuel, light foot, less expense and better for the environment.
